What to Bring: Intro to Fly Fishing Class
Welcome to your first step into the world of fly fishing! To ensure you have a comfortable and enjoyable experience, here’s what to bring:
For any on the water classes, we must see and ensure you have a valid NH Fishing license before you start fishing. You will need to purchase one if you don’t have one. Click Here to purchase your NH fishing license!!
Clothing
Layers: Dress in layers to stay comfortable as the temperature changes. Think moisture-wicking base layers, a warm mid-layer (like fleece), and a windproof/waterproof outer layer.
Waterproof Jacket and Pants: Stay dry if it rains or if you get a little too close to the water.
Hat: Protect yourself from the sun or a sudden sprinkle. A wide-brimmed hat is best, but a baseball cap works too.
Socks: Wool or synthetic socks to keep your feet warm even if they get damp.
Footwear
Sturdy Shoes: Non-slip hiking boots or wading boots. (Avoid sneakers unless you’re comfortable getting them wet and muddy.)
Wading Gear: If you have waders, bring them; if not, we can discuss whether they’re needed based on the location.
Safety Gear
Polarized Sunglasses or Eye Protection: Essential for protecting your eyes from wayward hooks and reducing glare so you can see into the water.
Sunscreen: For UV protection—even on cloudy days.
Bug Spray: In case the fish aren’t the only critters biting.
Comfort and Essentials
Water Bottle: Stay hydrated—fishing is thirsty work!
Snacks: Lightweight, high-energy snacks like granola bars, nuts, or fruit. For full-day classes, consider packing a small lunch.
Notebook and Pen/Pencil: Take notes on casting tips, knot-tying, and any fishy facts you learn.
Towel or Bandana: Handy for drying hands or wiping sweat.
Medication: Please bring any medication you would may need (insuliin, epi-pen, advil, etc.).
Optional (But Fun!)
Camera or Smartphone: Capture your “first fish” moment—but be careful around the water!
Backpack: A small, waterproof pack to carry your gear.
Your Own Fly Fishing Gear: If you have a rod, reel, or favorite flies, feel free to bring them! If not, we’ve got you covered.
