What to Bring: Intro to Fly Fishing Class
Welcome to your first step into the world of fly fishing! To ensure you have a comfortable and enjoyable experience, here’s what to bring:
Clothing
Layers: Dress in layers to stay comfortable as the temperature changes. Think moisture-wicking base layers, a warm mid-layer (like fleece), and a windproof/waterproof outer layer.
Waterproof Jacket and Pants: Stay dry if it rains or if you get a little too close to the water.
Hat: Protect yourself from the sun or a sudden sprinkle. A wide-brimmed hat is best, but a baseball cap works too.
Socks: Wool or synthetic socks to keep your feet warm even if they get damp.
Footwear
Sturdy Shoes: Non-slip hiking boots or wading boots. (Avoid sneakers unless you’re comfortable getting them wet and muddy.)
Wading Gear: If you have waders, bring them; if not, we can discuss whether they’re needed based on the location.
Safety Gear
Polarized Sunglasses or Eye Protection: Essential for protecting your eyes from wayward hooks and reducing glare so you can see into the water.
Sunscreen: For UV protection—even on cloudy days.
Bug Spray: In case the fish aren’t the only critters biting.
Comfort and Essentials
Water Bottle: Stay hydrated—fishing is thirsty work!
Snacks: Lightweight, high-energy snacks like granola bars, nuts, or fruit. For full-day classes, consider packing a small lunch.
Notebook and Pen/Pencil: Take notes on casting tips, knot-tying, and any fishy facts you learn.
Towel or Bandana: Handy for drying hands or wiping sweat.
Optional (But Fun!)
Camera or Smartphone: Capture your “first fish” moment—but be careful around the water!
Backpack: A small, waterproof pack to carry your gear.
Your Own Fly Fishing Gear: If you have a rod, reel, or favorite flies, feel free to bring them! If not, we’ve got you covered.
What to Bring: Guided Fly Fishing Trip
For guided trips, we want you to focus on the experience of catching fish and enjoying nature! Here’s what you’ll need:
**Required: Valid NH fishing license!!
This can be purchased online but we must see and ensure it is valid before you start fishing
Clothing
Same recommendations as the intro class (layers, waterproof jacket, sturdy shoes).
Quick-Drying Pants/Shorts: Avoid jeans—wet denim is no fun.
Gear
Your Own Rod/Reel: Optional; we provide rods (with reels etc.) if you don’t have your own.
Favorite Flies: Bring your lucky flies if you have them!
Tippet/Leaders: Optional but helpful if you like to use specific materials.
Comfort and Essentials
Water Bottle and Snacks: Bring enough for the duration of the trip. For full-day trips, we recommend packing a light lunch.
Sunglasses (Polarized): For safety and better water visibility.
Hat and Sunscreen: To keep cool and protected from the sun.
Bug Spray: Particularly if we’re fishing near wooded or marshy areas.
Extras
Rain Gear: Just in case the weather takes a turn.
Camera: For those memory-making catches!
